Hi Colleen,

This is a dire emergency!!

Your bird was eggbound and now she has literally turned herself inside out trying to expel the egg. That "red" item is her uterus.

Her only hope is to be seen by an Avian vet at once:

This one looks like an advertisement for Harrison pellets but they are only sold by vets so it's another good list to check. Click here: Harrison's Bird Foods is a family of certified organic pet bird diets that were formulated to make your bird as he

Please let me know how she is doing. I hope she will be all right.

Sincerest Best wishes,

Terri

Reply to Terri Riba's Post: The exotic vet was on site so he gave her a mild sedation, removed the egg, repositioned her uterus and placed two sutures to hold it in place. She's doing fine now. The egg was huge for such a little bird but he said a few days of antibiotics and rest and she should be back to normal. They gave her a calcium injection, a non-steriodal anti-inflammatory to reduce the swelling and pain, and a hormone injection to calm her ovaries. Thank you so much. I had no idea what to do and there were no local vets who would take care of a bird. I couldn't stand watching her suffer.
